Bridging the time gap between runway to racks, Lakme Fashion Week that takes place in Mumbai is particularly known for showing collections for the current season. LFW has carved a niche for striking a balance between upcoming designers and industry stalwarts in a true celebration of Indian fashion.
In Part I of our runway round-up from the week that was, we bring you collections that ruled the ramp.
KA-SHA
Karishma Shahani Khan’s label Ka–Sha unveiled her collection titled ‘Navya’ that was inspired by geometric yet organic natural objects. Layering was a mainstay across the collection as was a bold colour play. Tasselled saris with capes, origami blouses, and skirts worn with kurtas were key silhouettes.
SHIFT BY NIMISH SHAH
Nimish Shah’s collections always evoke a nostalgic state of mind and this line was inspired by the housewives of Alibaug. A largely muted colour palette prevailed with a focus on relaxed, comfortable silhouettes featuring a retro update. The laid back prints had one wishing for an endless lazy Sunday.
ANAVILA
One to champion the cause of the sari, this season, Anavila decided to focus on the ‘Sari In Us’. The designer’s presentation was all about embracing the sari beyond festive wear. Twill in shades of charcoal, blue and beige presented in subtle jacquard weaves were styled ingeniously — with cropped shirt blouses, boxy blouses, belts and backpacks.
SANJAY GARG
The designer’s ‘Monkey Business’ collection was replete with textiles like gajji silk, mashru, kadhwa, tissue, chanderi and engineered layout panels, all designed in Varanasi. The designer gave Indian textiles a contemporary update with silhouettes like loose kurtas, trousers with inverted pleats, tulip tunics, smocks, cropped tops, striped jumpsuits, layered off-shoulder maxis, pleated skirts and wrap tops.
