Lakmé Fashion Week‘s Winter/Festive 2017 edition recently came to a close. Obviously, we were keeping a close eye on the runway as the country’s best designers presented their take on dressing for the upcoming celebratory season. Anushree Reddy: For the Pastel Princess

Inspired by Niloufer, the beautiful princess of Hyderabad, Anushree Reddy’s opulent collection showcased intricate hand embroidery. The designer did not shy away from her love for florals, as they made an appearance in gorgeous watercolour hues. Her line consisted of modern silhouettes for every pre-wedding function. The colour story ranged from peachy pinks and burnt oranges to light yellows and bright golds in fabrics like pure hand weaved ahimsa silk, organza and pure organic mal mal.
Sonaakshi Raaj: For the Edgy Diva

Sonaakshi Raaj’s evening wear collection bordered on futuristic and edgy. The glamour quotient of the line was accentuated by glitter in the form of applique work, embellishments and trims. Tailored off-shoulder party dresses, jumpsuits, and the skirt-peplum detail stood out. The most innovative piece, though, was the all-black dhoti-inspired sari worn with a matching cropped blouse, with PVC accents.
Ridhi Mehra: For the Edgy Queen

Prints and embellishments took center stage at Ridhi Mehra’s winter/festive showcase, which had pieces that will work for both brides and their beloved bridesmaids. Details such as bugle beads turned into jaalis, scallop print patches, fringes, and tassels added edge to the line that boasted of shades of midnight black, ivory, champagne, pink, and bold red.
Arpita Mehta: For the Siren Bridesmaid

Arpita Mehta brought out florals for fall, with the lotus flower as the central motif of the line. ‘Midnight Muse’ was all about fusion-wear, consisting of pieces such as lehenga-skirt hybrids with slits, one-shoulder blouses, silk dresses, pleated palazzo pants, and well-constructed long jackets. The designer merged traditional with contemporary silhouettes using lush fabrics like silk, chiffon, and georgette.
Amoh by JADE: For the Bohemian Belle

Amoh by JADE’s fuss-free, statement separates adorned in delicate embellishments made for a perfect festive collection. From vintage hues to jewel tones, the line had a varied colour story. From well-tailored corsets and capes to floor-length jackets and modern dhotis, there was something for everyone.
Jayanti Reddy: For the Elegant Bride

Jayanti Reddy pulled out all the stops and sent a variety of silhouettes down the runway, including lehengas, jackets, shararas, blouses, tunics, and pants. Pairing beautiful short dresses with embroidered shawls and long capes, Reddy combined tradition with contemporary influences. She also used heavy ruffles and exaggerated tassels to add to the luxe vibe of the collection.
Divya Reddy: For the Modern Bride

Shades of green and pink accommodated rich floral embroidery at Divya Reddy’s contemporary bridal wear showcase. Layered, frilled maxi skirts and lehengas with abstract designs were teamed up with fitted, long-sleeved cholis. The show-stopping piece was a red floor-length, embellished jacket that made quite a statement with straight pants.
SVA by Sonam and Paras Modi: For the Experimental Wedding Crew
Bringing the divine beauty of Kashmir to the runway, Sonam and Paras Modi depicted gorgeous motifs of the region such as the Chinar Tree, twines, floral vines, the Himalayan bulbul, and other birds on sheer, velvet and silk fabrics. Contemporary silhouettes and risqué necklines came in a colour palette of jewel tones and golds. Embroidered corset belts and bespoke shoes further enhanced the beauty of this collection.
