Sartorial Pledges To Take This World Environment Day

The need of the hour is to be kinder to our broken planet. Our sartorial habits have contributed to climate change and its devastating effects. Token once-a-year actions are no longer going to cut it — we need to rise to the occasion and carve new, lifelong habits into our routines to slow down, if not reverse the damage.

As a multi-brand store, we ensure that our curation includes brands that are doing their best for the environment. Starting with Anita Dongre‘s latest bridal collection made with Tencel as well as her Grassroot line to the likes of Payal Pratap, Ka-Sha, Prama by Pratima Panday, Kanelle and Cord who all have a green design philosophy.

While it may seem like an uphill task, we’ve outlined some promises you can make this World Environment Day (5th June) and do your bit… so that we can treat everyday like Environment Day!

Shop Consciously

Look beyond a good deal. There could be damaging retail practices behind a too-good-to-be-true offer. Shop responsibly, and only when you need to. Invest in quality products that will last longer. Shop consciously and create a wardrobe that is long-lasting and kind.

Inform Yourself

Thanks to environmental watchdogs and growth in awareness, information on sustainability is freely available in the public domain. Words like ‘organic’, ‘conscious’, and ‘sustainable’ are used a lot but what do they really mean? Do some reading on it. Make it a habit to seek out environmental impact information about where you spend your coin, and don’t fall prey to greenwashing gimmicks.

Support Vintage

The good news is that there is enough clothing and accessories that already exists in the world — it’s good for the planet to shop pre-loved and vintage items from time to time too. Thrift to find unique gems… or simply shop in your mom or grandmother’s closet to unearth heirlooms.  You’ll be grateful for that decades-old Benarasi sari that your grandma wore on her wedding day; and now you can revamp it with a belt and a blazer for a modern touch.

Support Small Businesses

Indie and new labels tend to generate less waste and use fewer resources as they produce in small batches. While this is not a norm, it is worth keeping in mind while making a purchase. A lot of upcoming brands are eco-conscious in their mindset, and focus on using fabrics that are good for the environment too. #VocalForLocal is a win-win indeed.

 Start a Clothes Library

When you get bored of what you own, look to a friend’s closet for fresh finds. Start a system of borrowing and lending outfits to each other regularly, or even exchanging pieces. One man’s trash is another’s treasure!
