Lakme Fashion Week S/R17 Trend Report

Who doesn’t love fashion week season? And with the state of world affairs, it’s just the spot of (stylish) cheer we need in our lives. Thriving on the runway-to-racks concept, instant gratification is the name of the game at Lakme Fashion Week. After taking in the shows at their verdant new venue for the Summer/Resort 2017 season, we’re decoding the trends you need to swear by this season. Are you taking notes already?

Trend #1: The Neo Blouse

The reinvented blouse continues to be a cause championed by designers this season too. It’s the easiest way to spruce up your lehenga, sari, or bottoms. Tarun Tahiliani is heavily favouring shirt blouses, while Payal Singhal proves that the cape blouse is not going anywhere yet. Blouses with statement sleeves made a strong appearance too.

Trend #2: The Scarf Dupatta

Gone are the days when the dupatta was a heavy piece of fabric designed to bring you down. Just throw it on like a scarf, casually wrapped around your neck. Add tassels to it as dictated by Anushree Reddy and Divya Reddy or cinch it with a belt as seen during Tarun Tahiliani’s show.

Trend #3: Head-to-toe white

White (including ivory, and light beige) is no longer a taboo colour for Indian wear. It’s the colour designers are favouring for a pristine, ethereal and elegant vibe. Add a touch of gold to it as seen at Gaurang or opt for a floor-length kurta in the tone as seen at Anita Dongre.

Trend #4: The Indian Jacket

Easy chic layering seems to be the norm du jour this summer. The ways to wear it are many — a floor-length embroidered open jacket to match your anarkali, a printed jacket blouse with your lehenga or a cape over your dhoti and crop top. A heavily embellished jacket thrown on over a draped dress is another way to go as well.

Trend #5: Pleated ruffles

Crave some drama? Jump onto this ruffles bandwagon! Pleated ruffles for a go-to for several designers to add a spot of volume and look-at-me flair to their collections. A ruffled pallu as seen at Ka Sha Khan will turn all eyes on you. Jayanti Reddy, on the other hand, is all for ruffled blouse sleeves, collars, and lehenga tiers.

Trend #6: Fringe detailing

Fringle tassel detailing, also known as salli, was unanimously used to give traditional wear a touch of Art Deco glam. Movement and beauty rolled into one, this is the only way to embellish your blouses, sleeves, and hemlines this season!
