What to wear to every kind of destination wedding

Can a desi nuptial really be called a big fat Indian wedding if it’s not a destination soiree? The go-trend on the wedding scape for a while now, exchanging vows at an exotic locale has indeed become de rigueur. So whether you’re headed to universal favourite Rajasthan or to a scenic beach in South East Asia, there are some unwritten dress codes for every type of destination. We break it down for you.

BEACH WEDDING

Post-1

Goa, Phuket or Bali, a beach wedding promises non-stop soaking of the sun, sand, and sea. Pheras on the beach and brunch by the pool are generally the order of the day, so pack accordingly. Free-flowing, fuss-free silhouettes should be your go to. Think diaphanous gowns, dhoti pants with crop tops or long jackets with maxi skirts. White is definitely right at a beach wedding! Remember that less is more.

PALACE WEDDING

Post 4Headed for a royal affair? Dress the part! While it may be the bride’s fairy tale come true, nothing should stop you from bringing out your best finery as well. Ornate, intricate lehengas are sure to do the trick. Play with pastels to stand out in a sea of bright hues. You could even turn to a floor-length anarkali or a sari in a traditional weave.

CITY WEDDING

revised-2

The passcode for nailing a city wedding look is slick and chic. This is the perfect opportunity to play around with contemporary Indian wear or try on new trends (read: the off-shoulder blouse, this season). Bring out your lehengas, sari gowns and draped kurtas. They are all bound to do the trick here.

GARDEN WEDDING

revised-1As an increasing number of couples start to scale it down, intimate garden or backyard weddings are quickly gaining popularity for its intimate and cosy vibe. Think rustic chic. A flowy floral lehenga with a crop top style blouse is just what you need.

Stingy baggage allowances are often the main dampener when preparing your wardrobe for destination weddings. So pack smart. Avoid heavily flared outfits that take up way too much space. Try and stick to basics you can recycle, and definitely refrain from carrying your entire bauble box. Vacuum compression packing bags are a genius invention, and are ideal to pack bulky outfits without eating up the entire suitcase!
