Real Weddings: The Minimalistic Bride

While everyone gets inspired by runway looks, there’s nothing like seeing an outfit come alive on a real bride! Our store client Harpreet Chohan chose a Sabyasachi Mukherjee sari from the store for her reception in Lake Como — though a far cry from ornate bridal lehengas, her minimalistic look was fuss-free, elegant and right on-point for the ‘less is more’ bride. We speak to her about her outfit, bridal shopping tips, and more!

Decoding the look:
Not knowing much about Asian fashion, I began my research into potential bridal looks just before I was engaged (let’s not lie girls, we all did it before the ring was on the finger!). I was constantly drawn to Sabyasachi, a designer whose handwriting is beyond anything I’d seen before. I knew I was going to wear something by him, so when I visited Aashni + Co, my eyes were instantly drawn to his designs.

The bridal outfit I was looking for was for my symbolic vows and reception. I knew I wanted to wear a sari for this occasion, not a white dress or traditional lehenga look. So when my eyes locked in on the antique gold sari, I was instantly wowed. From the delicate threadwork to the intricacy of the border, it was pure love at first sight. It was exactly what I was looking for — understated, elegant and sophisticated.

 Decoding the wedding:
We had a destination wedding at Villa Pizzo (a charming villa built in 1435) in Lake Como in Italy. The villa offers the longest lakeside garden in Como, enriched with vineyards and olive groves. My husband had visited Lake Como prior to our engagement and knew that if he didn’t propose to me there, then we would have to get married there!

 Decoding the jewellery:
I’ve never been a jewellery fan, so I wanted something very comfortable. I wore an antique choker and satlada necklace in delicate pearls and kundan from Deeya Jewellery. I rounded this up with oversized studs.
Bridal shopping tips:
You can do as much research ahead of bridal shoppings visits as you like and have a distinct look in mind, but be prepared to surprise yourself when you’re drawn to something that you didn’t quite imagine yourself in. It’s actually a lovely enlightening feeling. Don’t be afraid to break away from the norms of bridal dressing. If you’re simple in taste, don’t worry about being a simple bride. Be sure that you choose an outfit that you wear with confidence and excitement. after all, all eyes will be on you!
The Aashni + Co experience:
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with Indian fashion, and I was feeling a little nervous pre-visit. However I left feeling absolutely thrilled and ecstatic as I found my wedding outfit. The store stylists were a delight to be hosted by, personable and extremely knowledgeable with great advice. From my first visit to find my outfit to the fittings I had, I was always very comfortable and relaxed with the service and support from the team. It was effortless!
