While the big fat Indian wedding may have been the obvious choice of celebration a few months ago; the era of small, intimate nuptials is upon us now. Decadent venues have been swapped out for the warmth of our homes. And massive guest lists have given way to only our inner circle. So it is only expected that the bridal wardrobe goes through a significant change to suit your home wedding too. A+CO put together a guide for you.

Heavily embroidered lehengas are probably too OTT for this setting.  Simpler, lighter and versatile pieces have taken centre stage. Saris? Yes of course! Choose heritage weaves like a timeless Banarasi or Paithani sari, which can be dressed up with a traditional blouse and vintage jewellery for the big day. Or a sheer number with delicate embroidery. These are perfect to put to use later, perhaps with a more modern and minimal blouse.

Kurta and sharara sets in beautiful chiffon and georgette in pastel shades can be dressed up with heavy chanderi, phulkari, zari, or embroidered dupattas to achieve a fitting look. Silk, woven or block printed lehengas can be given a similar treatment with heavier dupattas.

But steer clear of skirts that can weigh you down in this  cosy setting. Instead, use jewellery or a heavy blouse to give your lighter ensemble a more festive feel. Now is the time to don that gold or polki set you’ve been saving for a special occasion.

This is also a good time to peek into your mother’s or grandmother’s closets and choose gorgeous vintage heirlooms and put them to good use — for tradition, sentiment and for ease too.
